Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Filling

  • 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger

Coleslaw

  • 1 (397g) bag coleslaw
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey

Other

  • 16 Wonton wrappers
  • Sweet chili sauce, to serve
  • Chopped cilantro, to serve
  • Sesame seeds, to serve
  • Cooking spray or olive/canola oil for brushing

Instructions

  1. Prepare Wonton Shells: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the wonton wrappers with cooking spray or brush them with a small amount of olive or canola oil. Drape each wrapper over the edge of a 9×13-inch baking dish to form taco shell shapes. Bake for 7-8 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning. Remove the shells when pliable, gently pull them apart to separate, then bake for another 7-8 minutes until crisp and golden.
  2. Cook Chicken Filling: In a large bowl, combine the finely diced chicken breasts with hoisin sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and fresh ginger. Heat a large skillet over high heat and sauté the chicken mixture for 7-8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the chicken is fully cooked through and coated with the sauce.
  3. Make Coleslaw: While the chicken cooks, prepare the coleslaw by tossing together the coleslaw mix, thinly sliced green onions, sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey in a large bowl until well combined and lightly dressed.
  4. Assemble Tacos: Fill each crispy wonton shell with a generous amount of the cooked chicken mixture, top with a scoop of the prepared coleslaw. Drizzle sweet chili sauce over the top and garnish with chopped cilantro and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve immediately and enjoy these flavorful chicken wonton tacos!

Notes

  • Watch the wontons carefully to avoid burning during baking as they can crisp quickly.
  • For extra crunch, you can double bake the wonton shells after separating them.
  • Use fresh ginger for the best aromatic flavor.
  • If you want a spicier kick, add some sriracha or chili flakes to the chicken marinade.
  • These tacos are best served immediately to keep the wonton shells crispy.
