These Cheddar Cheese Buns are a delightful combination of soft, fluffy bread filled with gooey cheddar and parmesan cheese, topped with more cheese and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for a savory treat.

For the Overnight Dough:

  • 2/3 cup boiling water
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour

For the Bread Dough:

  • 1 tbsp. active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water (105115 F)
  • 2 and 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 and 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/41/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (for topping)
  • Sesame seeds (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Make the Overnight Dough – In a medium bowl, combine flour and boiling water. Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Make the Bread Dough – Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, egg, salt, and melted butter. Stir in flour gradually to form a dough. Knead until smooth. Let rise.
  3. Divide dough, fill with cheddar cheese, shape into balls, and place in greased muffin pans. Let rise again.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 F. Brush dough with beaten egg, sprinkle with garlic powder, top with shredded cheeses and sesame seeds. Bake for 18-22 minutes.

Notes

  • You can customize the cheese filling with your favorite cheeses or add herbs for extra flavor.
  • These buns are best served warm and can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
