Cheddar Cheese Buns Recipe

For the Overnight Dough:
- 2/3 cup boiling water
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
For the Bread Dough:
- 1 tbsp. active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water (105–115 F)
- 2 and 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
Additional Ingredients:
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 and 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4–1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded (for topping)
- Sesame seeds (for sprinkling on top)
- Make the Overnight Dough – In a medium bowl, combine flour and boiling water. Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate overnight.
- Make the Bread Dough – Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, egg, salt, and melted butter. Stir in flour gradually to form a dough. Knead until smooth. Let rise.
- Divide dough, fill with cheddar cheese, shape into balls, and place in greased muffin pans. Let rise again.
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Brush dough with beaten egg, sprinkle with garlic powder, top with shredded cheeses and sesame seeds. Bake for 18-22 minutes.
Notes
- You can customize the cheese filling with your favorite cheeses or add herbs for extra flavor.
- These buns are best served warm and can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
