For the Beef and Mushroom Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 8 oz mushrooms, diced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 pita pockets
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ½ cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef and Mushroom Filling: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until fragrant. Add ground beef, cook until browned, then add mushrooms. Season with paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Tzatziki Sauce: Grate cucumber, squeeze out excess water. Combine yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, lemon juice, dill, and salt in a bowl. Mix well.
  3. Assemble the Pita Pockets: Warm pita pockets, fill with beef and mushroom mixture, sprinkle cheese inside. Melt cheese if desired.
  4. Serve with Tzatziki Sauce: Drizzle tzatziki sauce into each pita pocket before serving.
