Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup (1 stick / 113 g) salted butter, softened
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 ¼ cups (282 g) all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup (126 g) confectioners’ sugar, divided

Add-ins

  • ⅓ cup Christmas sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking sheets: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent the cookies from sticking and to allow for easy clean-up.
  2. Beat butter, cream cheese, and sugar: In a large bowl, use a hand-held mixer to beat the softened butter, cream cheese, and granulated sugar together until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Add egg and vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and beat until combined.
  4. Mix in dry ingredients: Gradually add the flour, baking powder, and half a cup of confectioners’ sugar to the wet mixture. Use the mixer on low speed to gently incorporate the dry ingredients without overmixing.
  5. Fold in sprinkles: Gently fold in the ⅓ cup of Christmas sprinkles until just evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  6. Scoop and roll dough balls: Using a 2-tablespoon cookie scoop, scoop the dough and roll each ball into the remaining ½ cup of confectioners’ sugar. Place about 6 dough balls on each prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart. Slightly flatten each dough ball with the bottom of a glass or your hand.
  7. Bake the cookies: Bake for 8-11 minutes, or until the tops of the cookies no longer appear wet but are still soft and slightly gooey inside.
  8. Cool the cookies: Let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes to firm up, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Make sure butter and cream cheese are softened to room temperature for easier mixing and better texture.
  • Be careful not to overbake; the cookies should be soft and slightly gooey in the center.
  • These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
  • Use festive Christmas sprinkles to add a colorful, holiday touch.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese and butter with appropriate vegan alternatives, keeping in mind texture changes.
