Ingredients

Scale

Liquid Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup water

Dry Ingredients

  • ⅛ teaspoon coarse kosher salt

Main Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries (about 3 cups)
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, orange juice, honey, water, and kosher salt. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it reaches a gentle simmer.
  2. Add cranberries and cinnamon: Stir in the cranberries and add the cinnamon stick. Continue cooking over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 7 to 10 minutes, or until most cranberries have burst and the sauce begins to thicken.
  3. Cool and serve: Remove the cinnamon stick and transfer the sauce to a bowl. Allow it to cool for 30 minutes at room temperature. The sauce will thicken further as it cools, ready to be served alongside your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen cranberries depending on availability; frozen cranberries do not require thawing before cooking.
  • For a smoother sauce, you can mash the cranberries with the back of a spoon during cooking.
  • Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • This sauce can be made a day ahead to enhance flavor melding.
