For the cheese mixture:

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup (240 g) ricotta cheese or cottage cheese
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese

For the pasta:

  • 12 oz (340 g) penne or rigatoni pasta, cooked al dente
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meat sauce: In a skillet, brown the ground beef with diced onions. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Make the cheese mixture: In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, ricotta or cottage cheese, shredded mozzarella, and grated Parmesan.
  3. Assemble in the slow cooker: Spread a layer of meat sauce in the slow cooker. Add half of the cooked pasta, then half of the cheese mixture. Repeat layers, ending with a meat sauce layer on top.
  4. Cook: Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or high for 2 hours.
  5. Add the final cheese layer: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top and let it melt.
