Chicken:

  • 3 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken thighs

Spice Mixture:

  • 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt, plus more to taste
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated yellow onion
  • 1 1/2 cups BBQ sauce (recommend Bullseye original), divided
  • 2 Tbsp steak sauce (recommend A1)
  • 8 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Place chicken in slow cooker: Add chicken to a 5 – 7 quart slow cooker.
  2. Mix spices and coat chicken: Combine chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle over chicken along with grated onion.
  3. Add BBQ sauce: Pour 3/4 cup BBQ sauce over the chicken.
  4. Cook: Cover and cook on low heat for 4 – 6 hours until chicken shreds easily.
  5. Shred chicken: Remove chicken, shred, and return to slow cooker.
  6. Prepare sauce: Heat remaining BBQ sauce and steak sauce, then pour over chicken.
  7. Finish and serve: Add reserved liquid, toss chicken, and season to taste. Serve in hamburger buns.
