Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Teriyaki Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger (or 1 teaspoon ground ginger)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thicker sauce)
  • 1 tablespoon water (if using cornstarch)

For Garnish:

  • Sesame seeds and chopped green onions, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side or until cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the Teriyaki Sauce: In the same skillet, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ginger, and garlic. Simmer for 3-4 minutes to thicken. For a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch and water, then add to the sauce. Simmer for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  4. Coat the Chicken: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet with the sauce. Simmer for 2-3 minutes to coat the chicken evenly.
  5. Serve: Transfer chicken to plates, drizzle with sauce, and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
