This Feta Cucumber Sauce is a creamy, tangy, and refreshing Mediterranean-inspired dip or spread made with full-fat feta, Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese combined with fresh herbs and crisp grated cucumber. Perfect as a condiment for grilled meats, a dip for fresh vegetables, or a flavorful topping for pita bread and sandwiches.

Ingredients

Scale

Dairy

  • 6 ounces full-fat feta cheese
  • 1 ½ cups full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 6 ounces full-fat cottage cheese

Produce

  • 1 clove garlic
  • ½ cup English cucumber (grated)
  • 1/4 cup fresh dill

Spices & Seasonings

  • Squeeze of lemon juice (about 1 teaspoon)
  • 2 teaspoons dried mint
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Optional: olive oil for garnish
  • Optional: za’atar seasoning for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine Dairy Ingredients: In the bowl of a food processor, add the feta cheese, Greek yogurt, and cottage cheese along with the garlic, lemon juice, fresh dill, and dried mint.
  2. Pulse Mixture: Pulse the ingredients until they form a smooth and creamy consistency, scraping down the sides as needed to ensure an even blend.
  3. Prepare Cucumber: Using the largest side of a box grater, peel and grate the English cucumber into fine shreds.
  4. Drain Excess Liquid: Place the grated cucumber into a clean cheesecloth or fine kitchen towel and squeeze out as much excess liquid as possible to prevent the sauce from becoming watery.
  5. Fold Cucumber Into Sauce: Gently fold the drained grated cucumber into the creamy feta mixture, ensuring it is evenly distributed without over-mixing.
  6. Season to Taste: Adjust the seasoning by adding salt and black pepper as desired. Mix gently to combine all flavors.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Optionally drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle za’atar seasoning on top before serving for extra flavor and visual appeal.
  8. Storage: Transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate. It will keep fresh for up to 1 week.

Notes

  • Use full-fat dairy products for a richer and creamier texture.
  • Make sure to squeeze out excess cucumber liquid to avoid a watery sauce.
  • This sauce can be used as a dip, spread, or salad dressing base.
  • The sauce stores well and flavors meld beautifully after a few hours in the fridge.
  • Adjust mint and dill quantities to suit your taste preferences.
  • Za’atar and olive oil garnish adds an authentic Middle Eastern touch but can be omitted if unavailable.
