Ingredients

Scale

Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (240 grams)
  • 2 tsp baking powder (8 grams)
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt (2.85 grams)
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (30 ml)
  • 2/3 cup water (168 ml)

Garlic Sauce & Cooking:

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil (30 ml)
  • 1 tbsp freshly chopped parsley (3.80 grams)
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • Additional extra virgin olive oil for brushing

Instructions

  1. Make the dough: In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt. Mix the dry ingredients well, then add 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and 2/3 cup of water. Stir until a dough forms, then knead it with your hands until smooth and compact. Shape the dough into a ball.
  2. Divide the dough: Lightly flour a flat clean surface, place the dough ball on it, and cut it in half. Shape each half into a ball, then cut each ball into 4 equal pieces, producing 8 dough portions.
  3. Heat the pan: Place a large grilling pan over medium heat and allow it to warm up thoroughly before cooking the flatbreads.
  4. Shape the flatbreads: While the pan heats, flatten each dough piece into a round flatbread approximately 1/8 of an inch thick.
  5. Cook the flatbreads and prepare garlic sauce: Brush one side of each flatbread lightly with extra virgin olive oil, then place that side down on the hot pan. Brush the top side with oil. In a separate bowl, mix 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley, and finely shredded 4 cloves of garlic. This will be your garlic sauce. After about 75 seconds, flip the flatbread to cook the other side. Spoon some garlic sauce on top and spread evenly while it cooks for another 75 seconds. Remove from the pan and place on a serving dish. Repeat with remaining pieces.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Serve the garlic flatbreads warm as a delicious appetizer or alongside your favorite meals.

Notes

  • You can add a pinch of chili flakes to the garlic sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Use a nonstick or well-seasoned grilling pan to prevent sticking.
  • These flatbreads are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated briefly in a pan or oven.
  • Chopping garlic finely or using a garlic press helps release maximum flavor into the garlic oil.
  • Adjust the thickness of the flatbread to your preference but thinner breads will cook faster and crisper.
