  • 1 cup (190g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (59 ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons (10ml) pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup (60g) sour cream, at room temperature
  • 1 ¼ cups (175 g) all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 ½ teaspoon (6 g) baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup (158 ml) milk, at room temperature

Frosting:

  • 1 1/2 cup (339 g) unsalted butter, cold
  • 6 cups (780g) powdered sugar
  • 2 ½ tablespoons (12 ml) heavy whipping cream or milk
  • 2 teaspoons (10ml) pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. For the cake: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare the pans, mix wet ingredients, combine dry ingredients, fold in dry ingredients, bake, and cool.
  2. For the frosting: Whip butter, add powdered sugar and liquid ingredients, beat to incorporate air.
  3. To assemble the cake: Level cakes, layer with frosting, decorate with remaining frosting.
  4. To decorate the cake: Pipe a border and press sprinkles onto the sides.
