A creamy and indulgent twist on classic mashed potatoes with cream cheese and butter, perfectly seasoned and easy to prepare for any comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 5 pounds Potatoes

Dairy

  • 3/4 cup Milk
  • 3/4 cup Butter
  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese

Seasoning

  • 3 tablespoons Kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into 1-2 inch pieces to ensure even cooking.
  2. Boil the Potatoes: Place the potato pieces in a large pot and add enough water to cover them completely. Add 2 tablespoons of kosher salt to the water for seasoning. Cover and bring to a boil over high heat.
  3. Cook Until Tender: Let the potatoes boil for 15-20 minutes or until they are easily pierced and break apart with a fork, indicating they are cooked through.
  4. Drain and Return: Drain the potatoes thoroughly to remove all water, then place them back into the pot.
  5. Mash with Dairy: Add the butter and cream cheese to the potatoes. Using a potato masher or a hand mixer, begin mashing the potatoes, slowly adding the milk in 1/4 cup increments until you reach your desired creamy consistency.
  6. Season to Taste: Add the remaining salt in teaspoons, tasting as you go, until the mashed potatoes are seasoned perfectly to your liking.

Notes

  • Use starchy potatoes like Russets for the fluffiest texture.
  • Warm the milk and butter before adding to keep the potatoes hot and absorb well.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding garlic powder or fresh herbs like chives.
  • Do not overmix to avoid gummy potatoes; mash just until creamy.
