Ingredients

Scale

Cereal Mix

  • 3 cups square corn cereal (i.e. Chex or Crispix)
  • 3 cups square wheat cereal
  • 3 cups square rice cereal

Other Mix-Ins

  • 3 cups Cheetos or similar cheesy corn snack
  • 3 cups Bugles
  • 2 cups mini pretzel twists
  • 2 cups small square cheese crackers
  • 2 cups dry roasted peanuts

Seasoned Butter Coating

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp seasoned salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dark chili powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • Few dashes hot sauce (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). Prepare an extra-large rimmed baking pan or two large sheet pans to hold the snack mix for baking.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In an extra-large mixing bowl (or directly on the baking pan), combine the corn, wheat, and rice cereals with the Cheetos, Bugles, mini pretzels, cheese crackers, and dry roasted peanuts. Stir until the mixture is evenly distributed.
  3. Melt Butter and Season: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder, dark chili powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, and a few dashes of hot sauce to your preference. Stir or whisk well until all spices dissolve and blend uniformly.
  4. Coat the Mixture: Pour the seasoned butter mixture over the dry cereal mix. Gently stir using a large spoon or rubber spatula to coat every piece evenly but without breaking the snacks.
  5. Spread on Baking Pan: Spread the coated snack mix evenly on the prepared baking pan(s), ensuring a thin layer for even roasting.
  6. Bake and Stir: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Every 15 minutes, remove the pan and stir the snack mix thoroughly to promote even baking and crispiness.
  7. Cool and Store: Once baking is complete, spread the snack mix on parchment paper and allow it to cool completely. Once cooled, store the snack mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce to control the spiciness level according to your preference.
  • Use unsalted or lightly salted butter if you want to reduce the saltiness of the mix.
  • Make sure to stir frequently during baking to avoid burning and ensure even coating.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
  • Feel free to substitute or add nuts and crackers of your choice for variety.
