Scale

Butter Rice Pilaf Ingredients

  • 5 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup onion, finely diced
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1½ cups white long grain rice
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Sauté Onions and Garlic: In a medium-sized pot over medium-high heat, melt the butter until it sizzles slightly. Add the finely diced onions and cook for about 3 minutes until they become tender. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  2. Toast the Rice: Stir in the white long grain rice, coating it thoroughly with the butter. Toast the rice in the butter for approximately 2 minutes, which helps to enhance its flavor and texture.
  3. Add Broth and Seasonings: Pour in the chicken broth along with salt, black pepper, and the bay leaves. Bring the mixture to a boil to start the cooking process.
  4. Simmer the Rice: Once boiling, reduce the heat to a gentle simmer and cover the pot with a lid. Let the rice cook undisturbed for 18 minutes until liquid is absorbed and rice is tender.
  5. Rest and Fluff: Remove the pot from heat but keep the lid on. Let the rice sit for an additional 3 minutes to finish steaming. Then remove the lid, discard the bay leaves, and fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • Use long grain white rice for the best fluffy texture.
  • For a vegetarian version, substitute chicken broth with vegetable broth.
  • Be sure not to lift the lid while simmering to prevent steam escape which is essential for fluffy rice.
  • Butter can be adjusted to preference for richness.
  • This pilaf pairs well with grilled meats or roasted vegetables.
